The iPhone 4s Disassembly Tear Down by Tech Life
Posted by Jared on 10/17/2011
Yes not but a few hours after having a brand new iPhone 4s we were already in the process of disassembling it to check out the insides. As soon as we saw Tim Cook show it on Apple’s stage it was agreed that it needed to be done. Tech Life found the Phone 4s interior to be much like the Verizon iPhone 4. A few things have been moved around to make room for the sim card. The camera looks different but is still about the same size as the iPhone 4.
The iPhone 4s Front assembly is different enough for you not to be able to use the Verizon(cdma) iPhone 4 screen as a replacement, although the connectors do look to be the same. Just for kicks we tried installing a CDMA screen but found that it does not fit properly. This brings up valuble point: If you are replacing the screen on you iPhone 4s make sure it is the iPhone 4s front assembly that includes the LCD. If you do not get the right part it will not work.
The 4s motherboard looks almost idential to the Verizon iphone 4 motherboard.
The water sensor on the iPhone 4s motherboard is much larger then the AT&T iphone 4. The battery now connects with 2 screws instead of one like the previous iPhone. The battery connection of the bottom is a screw that screws into another larger screw.

One major difference that we have found with the midframe is the home button. It looks like Apple has integrated the home button design of the iPod Touch 4th gen into the iPhone 4s. The previous generation iPhone had a home button that was stuck to the midframe with adhesive. This version has the button attached to the front assembly. I think this was a good move because dirt can no longer enter the phone from the home button area.
New home button
This is a picture of the back of the iPhone 4s front assembly. You can see the home button is attached to it with rubber and adhesive. In order to replace the screen in the future, the home button will need to be peeled off and used on the iPhone 4s replacement screen.
Lastly there is the battery. You can see that it has been upgraded from 5.25Whrs to 5.3Whrs. We are glad to see that the battery is different looking because when the 3Gs came out, the battery looked identical. With this battery there should be no mix up.
Well that is all for now. Hopefully you never will need iPhone 4s repair but if you do, you know where to find us.
